Lady Glenconner – aka Anne Tennant – who was given a ‘lifeline’ by Princess Margaret has opened up about her abusive and difficult marriage with Lord Glenconner – aka Colin Tennant – in a new memoir. The party invitation that changed everything

In one of The Crown’s episodes, Anne Tennant is seen pointing out men by the poolside for a distressed and miserable Princess Margaret who’s unhappy with her husband's unfaithfulness. The said Lady-in-waiting, Anne, has now claimed that she had done nothing of that sort.

She told MailOnline that The Crown’s dramatisation was far from the truth. Reportedly, Princess Margaret valued people and friends who were not so overwhelmed by her Royal status, so Anne used to invite her over to events where she felt appropriate. Talking about the party where Margaret met Roddy Llewellyn, she confessed:

I tried to make sure the other guests would be people I thought she would like. When I was a man short one weekend and invited Roddy Llewellyn at the last minute, it turned out I'd invited someone she liked very much indeed.

The scandal their relationship caused meant Colin and I were out of favour with the Royal Family for quite some time, but it was worth it to see Princess Margaret happy.

It was a party not pimping

The scandal that shook the Royal household was unfortunately something that started at Anne’s party, but she had no such intentions or idea that things would go so far beyond. She added:

It was very strange watching their meeting being dramatised in The Crown. They made it look as if I was pimping for her, lasciviously pointing out the attractions of the men around the pool.

That would be taking being a good hostess a bit too far, in my opinion.
I suppose it made for a good television scene, but it couldn't have been further from the truth. All I did was invite him to stay; the rest was down to them.
