Sarah Ferguson upholds the Queen’s morals

She talks about how much she looks up to the late Queen and how she has always wanted to uphold her legacy. Fergie told The Telegraph:

It’s unbelievably important to uphold Her Majesty’s legacy. And although I’m not a member of the Royal family any more, my values are what I believe is right – and that’s what they uphold.

She also mentioned that the late Queen ‘was more of a mother’ to her than her own. One of the ways she chooses to uphold this is to always remain presentable, which she has instilled in her daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

Even when you’re just walking out of your own front door, always smile. Uphold all that. No one wants to see a grumpy princess.

The statement about ‘a grumpy princess’ led the interview towards the Duchess of Sussex.

Sarah Ferguson’s view of Meghan Markle

The interviewer probed Fergie and mentions that someone is ‘being a very grumpy ‘princess’ indeed.’ Fergie then admitted that she doesn’t ‘really know Meghan’ but she did speak to her during the late Queen’s funeral.

I don’t really know Meghan. I haven’t really met her. I spoke to her at the funeral, and I thought she looked absolutely beautiful. I think she is beautiful.

When asked if Meghan has ‘damaged the Royal Family’ the Duchess of York explained that she is in no position to make that assessment. However, she did comment on the fact that Meghan has made Prince Harry happy:

She has made Harry very happy, and that is so nice. Honestly, he’s so happy with her. She really loves him. And I think that’s beautiful – and that Diana would be proud of him and her lovely grandchildren.

Sarah Ferguson relates to Prince Harry and Meghan

Another point that the Duchess of York highlights is that she relates to the Sussexes. Indeed Fergie talks about her relocation to the US after her divorce from Prince Andrew:

After I got divorced, I spent 12 years in America, writing books, and it was a wonderful place for me. I felt free there. And I can’t thank Americans enough for the way they were with me.

Adding:

I can understand why he would [do that].

Fergie also hints that she would be open to having her own documentary after refusing to admit whether or not she has watched Prince Harry and Meghan’s. When asked if she watched it, she deflected with:

So, I think I’m a devourer of information on Netflix. And I love watching everything on Netflix.

She then admitted her wish to have her own documentary, but perhaps not the same as the Sussexes’ one:

I also think that one day I’d like to do a documentary.

Trying to dig up dirt

It seems as though the interviewer was not always satisfied with Fergie’s answers as they weren’t gossipy enough. This was noticeable when she tried to talk about Meghan Markle being a ‘grumpy princess’:

She’s going to make me say it. I’m talking about Meghan Markle, I say leadenly.

The same can be said after Fergie’s answer concerning the pair’s documentary. After her first response, the interviewer says:

What am I supposed to do with that?
