Never without a drink

The Mirror quoted a source close to the King saying:

[Charles] can be quite fussy when it comes to food and alcohol.

They then added that:

He'll take booze on royal tours with him so that he has always got something he likes to drink.

It is fair to speculate that the King's bottle of choice is gin. According to the book The Palace Papers: Inside the House of Windsor--the Truth and the Turmoil by author Tina Brown, the King’s go-to tipple was a gin and tonic.

However, it would seem that the King has a new favourite alcoholic beverage, and it’s the same as James Bond’s.

Shaken not stirred

According to Count Tibor Kalnoky, the King enjoys a martini every night before dinner. Speaking on the Channel 4 documentary The Real Windsors: The Outspoken Heir, the Count said:

He likes a martini before dinner, that’s for sure.

The famous cocktail is made with gin and vermouth and garnished with an olive or a lemon twist. The gin can also be replaced with vodka. It remains unknown if Charles prefers the gin or the vodka-based variation.

But should Charles prefer his martini prepared the same way as James Bond, then in the famous words of the spy himself:

Three measures of Gordon’s, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it very well until it’s ice-cold, then add a large thin slice of lemon peel.

However, it isn’t the choice of drink that shocked Count Tibor, but the way the then-Prince Charles drank it. The Monarch’s friend noticed that the cocktail had to be served in Charles’s own glass as part of the King's pre-dinner ritual.

Not only does the King take his own booze when travelling abroad, His Majesty also, apparently, takes his martini glass with him everywhere.
