Captain Ian Farquhar reportedly died at the monarch's Highgrove Estate. TheMirror confirmed that he served as the Queen Mother's equerry and in the Queen's Own Hussars, a cavalry regiment of the British Army. Captain Ian and King Charles became close friends when Prince William briefly dated Rose Farquhar in 2000 after he finished his A-levels at Eton.

He was also Queen Mother’s equerry - where his primary duty was to ensure his royal charge adhered to a strict schedule. The Queen Mother also gave him an alarm clock. Captain Ian was the Master of the Beaufort Hunt - West Country's oldest and largest fox hunt - for 34 years. The hunt shared a tribute on Instagram that read:

It is with broken hearts we send our love and condolences to the family and friends of our own Captain Ian Farquhar, who so brilliantly piloted us for 34 years and passed away peacefully this week.

According to MailOnline, Captain Ian died on Wednesday morning. He was also close with Queen Camilla. This comes as he lived on the King's estate for many years in a rented farmhouse. The Captain was described by his friends as ‘wild as a hawk in his youth, but always great fun.’

Andrew Parker Bowles - Queen Camilla’s first husband - added that Ian was well-known as ‘The Captain.’ Andrew confirmed that Ian had been struggling with poor health for some months.

Who was Captain Ian Farquhar?

Captain Ian and the British Royal Family have been acquainted for more than 2-3 decades. Ian had a great ‘sense of humour.’ MailOnline reports that anyone who was ‘lucky enough’ to be in his company and listened to tales about his ‘extremely varied and adventurous life’ will hold onto his memories forever.

The old Etonian Ian had a zest for life as an admirer added:

He used to go and have dinner with the King and drive home across the fields.

He would often have to abandon his car when it became hopelessly bogged down, confirms MailOnline. The car used to later be retrieved by a tractor.
