This year’s Love Island is shaking up a lot of things and one of the most important is the wardrobe for the contestants.

After 20% of Britons admitted that pre-loved clothing accounted for 16% of their wardrobes on average, Love Island has taken things into their hands to change fashion. As what stars wear on-screen usually becomes a huge trend, they have partnered with eBay UK, which basically translates to the confirmation that this season will have the stars wearing second-hand clothes for the first time ever.

Fashion revolution

As season 8 prepares to premiere this summer, the hit reality dating show has announced that it is partnering with eBay UK to transform the way consumers purchase clothes. It will be the first time a pre-loved fashion partner collaborates with one of television's most popular shows. The executive producer of Love Island, Mike Spencer, confirmed:

We are thrilled to be pairing up with eBay this year as our pre-loved fashion partner. As a show, we strive to be a more eco-friendly production with more focus on ways in which we can visibly show this on screen.
This partnership will see our Islanders get to dive into the shared wardrobes and help themselves to some incredible pre-loved clothes sourced from eBay.
We aim to inspire our demographic and show that there are incredible finds to be had and how sharing is, in some small way, caring.

The Islanders will follow a stringent 'eat, sleep, rewear, repeat' regimen. The collaboration comes after eBay conducted a study that revealed that UK shoppers are becoming more conscious of fast fashion.

Changing the game

Love Island star styles have always been a fan favourite. For instance, after Millie wore a shoulder marble dress last season, the search for ‘marble dress’ went up 127%. As such, this new initiative would not only let Islanders get creative with their style but they would also do their bit to extend the life cycle of clothes. Jemma Tadd, Head of Fashion at eBay UK said:

We’re so excited to partner with Love Island this year and put pre-loved fashion, centre stage.
The impact of Love Island and its stars across the UK is undeniable and together we want to inspire the nation to choose pre-loved first when shopping - even if this means buying or selling one or two pre-loved items to start with, it’s a step in the right direction.
We can’t wait to change the conversation and dress the Islanders in pre-loved outfits for the very first time.
