These celebs don't plan on leaving a big inheritance to their kids

Tana Ramsay, wife of chef Gordon Ramsay, has always been in the spotlight, but her latest move surprises even her longtime followers. Rather than another cookbook or TV cameo, Tana is now training to become a midwife. Her decision to return to university and commit to a full three-year course marks the start of a strikingly new chapter for her, one inspired by compassion, lived experience, and her passion for helping others through life's most emotional moments.

Motivation: From cookbooks to corridors of care

Tana's decision to study midwifery is closely linked to personal heartbreak. In 2016, she lost her son Rocky in a late-term miscarriage, a tragedy that profoundly shaped her perspective on parenthood and support for grieving families. During the 2024 Pride Of Britain Awards, Tana and Gordon presented an award to midwife Agnes Nisbett, with Gordon openly sharing their own journey:

"Six years ago we experienced that, so we couldn't be happier to be here."

Publicly supporting midwives and the vital role they play, the couple highlighted how formative the early moments after loss can be for parents. Tana said of Agnes,

"Who she is and what she has done for so, so many women is incredible, impactful, and exactly why she has been given this award. Gordon and I were really honoured to be a part of her special surprise, and to talk about our own journey with a real understanding about the importance of the immediate support parents receive in those heartbreaking first moments."

A family approach and professional reboot

Tana's journey isn't just about a new career; it's an extension of the empathy she's shown throughout her diverse professional life. Before embarking on her midwifery studies, she worked as a Montessori teacher, authored six cookbooks over two decades, and managed 'All About the Girl', a beauty salon in Wandsworth until 2023. Those close to Tana believe this new role perfectly suits her nurturing spirit, built from years as a teacher and her instinct to support mothers, both on and off camera. Her family mirrors her resilience and openness about challenges: the Ramsays have six children—Megan, Holly, Jack, Tilly, Oscar and Jesse—spanning ages two to twenty-seven. Over the years, Tana has shared candid reflections on parenthood, once admitting,

"When I say resent, it's just sometimes I'd be like 'Do you need to sit on the sofa and rest and watch the news and have 10 minutes to yourself? because I can't do that.'"

She doesn't shy away from the harder realities either:

"I'd be lying if I said 'No it's fine I took this on' and there were times it felt really hard, but you get over it."

Her honest outlook and willingness to learn set a strong example for her children and audience alike.

Tana's next steps: From university to NHS wards

Following her enrolment in a London university in 2025, Tana's studies are set to run for three years if she proceeds full-time. The programme includes hands-on placements within NHS hospitals, giving her direct exposure to the realities of delivering care and comfort in the most sensitive circumstances. Those close to her say this career change is no whim, but a logical step after her deep engagement with communities of support and loss. Gordon remains fiercely supportive, with one source close to the family telling Mail that his pride could not be higher. Tana herself continues publicly advocating for midwives and for parental support, blending her public platform with her new vocational mission. Can this shift redefine her legacy—and maybe even inspire others to follow in her footsteps?
