Best known for bouncing around the stage in S Club 7, Jo O'Meara is living her worst nightmare as she struggles with her health. After a horror back injury, the star has been left unable to walk let alone dance.

Jo’s ordeal

The 43-year-old singer explained how she woke up in terrible pain at 4am in November and had to call the ambulance because she couldn’t move. The star – who left like she’s been shot after the injury – has been left with permanent damage to her right leg and would have to go through months of physiotherapy before she even thinks of returning to the stage.

With her painful history of back episodes, the star underwent the knife in September – hoping it would solve her problems – but things are more ‘complex’ than that. Jo told TheSun:

Back surgery is so complex and every time they go in, they’re just weakening my back. I was absolutely petrified.
The surgeons said there was a very good chance of permanent damage to the legs and that I might never dance again.

She added:

I was thinking, ‘Well that’s me done then,’ because standing up on stage and singing Reach is kind of impossible if you can’t move.

Back attack – here’s what happened

This comes after Jo believes that her constant trampolining every day led to the four bulging discs in her spine. The discs in her spine had started rubbing against her sciatic nerve and that’s how everything went downhill for the star.

In her early twenties, Jo pulled a string of events – despite two of her discs bulging out. Since the singer was busy with the band tour, she used steroids instead for instant relief and went on with her life. But the star feels that her back was always a ticking time bomb and it just ticked now. She said:

But pretty much 20 years to the day it just went bang and all of a sudden, the pain.

I can’t even begin to tell you what it was like. I couldn’t walk.
I think my back was a ticking time bomb. I think it was always going to go.
