Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the most recognizable and respected figures in the sporting world. Throughout the past few decades, the Portuguese legend has played with iconic clubs such as Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus before signing a mega deal with Saudi club Al-Nassr for a reported £173m-a-year.

However, his contract expires in 2025 and despite his exceptional performance with the club scoring 28 goals in 29 games, the football legend turned 39 this February which begs the question: how much longer will Cristiano Ronaldo play before retiring?

His wife Georgina Rodriguez has been gaining a lot of buzz over a video her Paris Fashion Week appearance in which she is said to have answered the question.

Georgina wears a Cristiano-inspired dress

On 1 March, High Fashion brand Vetements had its FW24 show in Paris, it featured Georgina Rodriguez wearing a dress inspired by her partner as football jerseys have made their way into the fashion zeitgeist.

As part of any fashion show, photographers and journalists are given backstage access to document the process, outfits and unique interactions only visible behind the curtain. One such interaction with Georgina is going viral.

In the video, Georgina could be seen having another conversation with a model in which she states:

He said one year finished, or two, I don't know.

While the full context behind this conversation is currently unclear, several media reports have claimed that the few words she said was indeed in relation to her partner's retirement.

Neither Georgina or Cristiano have addressed the speculation that the video has sparked.

Could it be possible that Cristiano could retire in the next two years?

Cristiano Ronaldo’s potential next moves

Cristiano’s contract with Al Nassr expires in 2025 and, in any case, could be renewed or extended for any period the star wishes. However, what gives credence to Georgina’s alleged statement is Cristiano’s one dream that has eluded him his entire career: winning a World Cup.

As such it is possible for Cristiano to extend his career until 2026 to give himself one last chance to cap his already highly decorated career with the biggest most meaningful trophies of them all.

When the player was asked the question in January 2024, he did not give a clear answer:

Of course it will be soon, soon I mean 10 years more.
No I am joking, I don't know, let's see.

This conjecture rides on Cristiano’s ability to sustain his high-level performance despite creeping up in age, which is entirely possible as the footballer himself has made prior indications of wanting to play well until his forties. According to a statement by Fernando Santos, the ex-Portugal boss believes:

he's not a player who will lower his level, when he feels like he can’t be Ronaldo, he won’t.
