As always, the 2019 BAFTAs were a glamorous, star-studded affair as both British and international TV stars flocked to the red carpet in London. However, one of the UK's most beloved comedy actresses, Daisy May Cooper, opted for a very unusual dress... and the reason behind it was brilliant.

Since it began in 2017, This Country has become one of the UK's favourite sitcoms with writer and star Daisy May Cooper - who plays Kerry Mucklowe on the show - nominated for Best Female Comedy Performance at the BAFTAs for the second year in a row. Whilst Daisy May took home the award in 2018, this year she was pipped by Jessica Hynes' performance in There She Goes.

However, Daisy May still managed to hit headlines for her very unusual outfit choice. Whilst the rest of her fellow TV stars opted for lavish gowns and pristine suits, she stormed the red carpet wearing the ultimate in shabby chic - a floor-length dress made out of 16 litre bin bags, fashioned by her mother.

The bold look was finished with a bin lid hat complete with stuffed pigeon and a trail of rubbish stuck to the train of the dress. She told ITV: 'I wanted people to say, 'Oh what are you wearing? Gucci?' No just bin bags.' And the look certainly did get people talking - but there was a more serious reason behind her zany sartorial move...
