Tattoos are becoming increasingly popular and it is not uncommon to come across a colleague with a new little design on their arm. Whether they are amusing, unusual, common, or extremely rare, they all have meaning with varying degrees of depth. But sometimes some of the designs bear witness to a tragic event that has occurred.

This mother's tattoo

Sometimes tattoomeanings are more painful than others. A date, a drawing, or a sentence that refers to pain from the past and that one does not want to forget. This is probably why Joan Bremer had a unique and beautiful symbol tattooed on her.

When she was seven weeks pregnant, the woman had to go through one of life's worst ordeals: losing her child to a miscarriage. After the terrible tragedy, she decided to take the plunge and get a tattoo.

Bremer told Today:

It took about three days to recover, and during that time I thought of getting a tattoo to mark this life experience,

Adding:

Even though this was a painful time, I still wanted to be able to remember it in some way.

A beautiful symbol

It was in 2016 that Joan Bremer had to face the heartbreaking news. But with courage, the young woman decided to never forget the child that would never be born. The result is incredible: a line silhouetting a pregnant woman with two red hearts, representing Joan Bremer's and her child's, in their respective chests. The tattoo quickly went viral.

Bremer said she had plans for her tattoo should she ever conceive her ‘rainbow baby’ or if she were to suffer another miscarriage.

If we are able to carry a baby to term and have a healthy child, I will add a rainbow baby to this design
If I end up having a second miscarriage, I will most likely add another heart to this design.
