South Korea ups its surveillance as North Korea launches missiles

It is known that North Korea has been testing out their military missiles with their numerous test launches. It seems that South Korea has noticed.

North Korea has been trying to improve its military capacity. The country has been testing various missiles, some successful, others not so much. Amidst their struggle to contain the Covid-19 outbreak, the country may have launched another missile test.

South Korea heard shots

According to Reuters, South Korea’s military said they had heard shots on Sunday, July 10 around 6 pm. They believe the shots were ‘fired by North Korea, possibly from multiple rocket launchers (MLRs)’.

As a result of the shots heard, the South Korean military has strengthened its surveillance and alert levels. South Korea has been ‘pursuing a $2.6-billion artillery interception system’ in order to protect themselves from North Korea’s arsenal.

North Korea launching missiles

As reported by Reuters, North Korea has been launching MLRs and intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM). However, under the U.N Security Council resolutions imposed on the country, North Korea is actually banned from test launching.

Seoul and its surrounding area are within range of North Korea’s arsenal of long-range guns and rockets. The U.N has placed around 28,000 troops in South Korea.
