Festivals everywhere that exist to boost morale and bring communities together have mostly been cancelled this year and for good reason. And, after a recent announcement, Hyde Park's Winter Wonderland has been added to list of axed events. Coronavirus isn't just coming for our health but it's also coming for our fun. The much loved Winter Wonderland in London's Hyde Park has been cancelled due to the pandemic and it really is the best thing right now in order to protect people from the virus. Getty ImagesOrganisers of the event posted the sad announcement on Facebook today stating:Dear Hyde Park Winter Wonderland family, It is with a heavy heart we share that Hyde Park Winter Wonderland will not be taking place this year. Hyde Park Winter Wonderland has always been about bringing friends and family together in a fun, safe and interactive environment to celebrate the festive season. The post continued:Our team has worked tirelessly, exploring every possible option in the hopes of being able to move forward with the event in a responsible manner and provide London with some much-needed festive cheer. However, in light of ongoing health concerns, travel restrictions and uncertainty surrounding COVID-19, and considering the size and scale of this event, we just couldn't find a way to do that without compromising the magical attractions, shows, rides, bars and experiences that make Hyde Park Winter Wonderland so special.Getty ImagesThe organisers finished off the post by apologizing for the sad news and promising that the beautiful community event will be back in 2021 for everyone to enjoy:We know how disappointing this news will be for the millions of people we usually welcome each season. And we can assure you we share your disappointment, having put a lot of work, sweat and even some tears into trying to make this year's event possible. Thank you so much for your ongoing support and please stay safe. We cannot wait to bring friends and family back together to celebrate the festive season at Hyde Park Winter Wonderland in 2021.Getty ImagesFans of the festival are undoubtedly gutted that the event is not taking place, most understand that precautions need to be taken amidst the recent rise in coronavirus cases. One person commented:I'm absolutely gutted. My favourite time of the year and place, I respect the decision in order to keep everyone safe. I can not wait to see you next year. Thank you for the amazing memories you have given me so far and making Winter Wonderland my happiest place. But still, Christmas is not cancelled! Maybe the axing of the Winter Wonderland will be a good opportunity for people to once again make delicious egg nog and hot chocolates in their own homes, or even a cheeky mulled wine!
