How The Success Kid Ended Up Helping Save His Dad's Life
You're probably familiar with the 'Success Kid' meme but you may not be aware of how he went on to use his Internet fame for good.
Back in 2007, a photo of Sammy Griner on a beach went viral after his mum uploaded it to Flickr. Since then the photo has been used in countless memes and the photo would be recognised by Internet-users worldwide.
But Sammy, of course, is no longer a baby. And in 2015, when a personal tragedy struck his family, his Internet fame came in handy. Sammy's dad was in need of a kidney transplant but, living in the US, this would be cripplingly expensive. Sammy's mum launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the 75,000 dollars of medical expenses.
Thanks to Sammy's Internet fame, the campaign was a success - they smashed their 75,000 dollar target, raising 101,115 dollars and Sammy's dad got his transplant.
