Fully vaccinated passenger died mid-flight from coronavirus

This 51-year-old man passed away in the middle of his flight, and he was infected with COVID.

On 25 October, a fully vaccinated air passenger was flying from Turkey to Germany when he tragically lost his life. The 51-year-old man had presented his vaccination status prior to entering the flight, but the postmortem reports revealed that he had been infected with the coronavirus. The official cause of death has not been ruled as COVID as the man had an extensive history with serious illnesses.

Tragic death

According to Focus Online, the passenger had flown to Istanbul a week before his sudden death. He had boarded the Pegasus Airlines flight at around 10 am and the flight was an estimated three and a half hours long. The exact timing of his death is unknown as the cabin crew only discovered his lifeless body when they landed in Hamburg at 1 pm but forensic experts believe that he passed away mid-flight.

Pegasus Airline clarified, in a statement, that the man was only allowed onboard after complying to the proper COVID protocol. He had provided a certificate which proved he had been fully vaccinated and hence no PCR test results were necessary for his trip. A spokesperson from the Hamburg health authority told Focus Online:

In general, the provisions of the entry regulations apply, according to which either a test or proof of vaccination must be presented when entering from Turkey.
We extend our condolences to the family and neighbours of the passenger.

Authorities still do not know whether or not he was exhibiting any COVID symptoms prior to boarding the flight.
