Because candidates have been asked to block out their entire summer, Love Island 2022 is likely to be the most extended series ever of the hit ITV2 dating show. To be considered for a seat on the show, prospective singletons must be available for a total of ten weeks throughout the year. Last summer, Love Island contestants had to make sure they could devote an entire eight weeks of their vacation to the show. ITV2 now appears to have decided to extend the series by requiring that everybody who signs up stay for a fortnight longer.
Ten weeks of drama
This summer, ITV2 will broadcast the eighth series of the show and has a few changes for this season. Candidates must be able to make themselves available for the entire duration of their summer, according to the terms and conditions of the ITV2 website's sign-up form. The eligibility requirement stated:
You must be exclusively available to participate in the programme for a minimum of ten consecutive weeks.
Other requirements include that participants be at least 18 years old and not be related to anyone who works on the show behind the scenes. The network began hunting for their next set of singletons last month, and applications for the 2022 series of Love Island officially started. Successful candidates would spend time in a beautiful villa, which is expected to be in Majorca this year.
Change of view
Producers are considering transferring the new villa to the foothills of mountains, by a lake, or to the ocean for the first time in this summer's season. The crew behind Love Island may bring a variety of new components. However, the show's most popular features, such as the fire pit and swimming pool, will remain. The show on ITV2 and ITV Hub is the most popular among 16 to 34-year-olds. According to a TV insider,
ITV bosses think this is the right moment to refresh this element of the show, just as they did in series three back in 2017…they’re considering a range of options, but want to stay on the island, which has provided the perfect sunny backdrop for the show.
Bosses are conscious of the fact that this is also an opportunity to consider all the new elements they could introduce to enhance the show even further. For fans of Love Island, this is huge news and they’ll be eager to see what the new villa looks like and how much it could change the show.
