Having become a quadrillionaire within seconds he started making plans to pay the US national debt and do other good things for the world.

But could he expect the out-of-this-world sum of $92,233,720,368,547,800 to stay on his account?

PayPal that originally credited the amount realised what they’ve done soon enough, and here is what happened next.

Meanwhile, here is what to do if you found money on the street.

A man becomes the richest person in the world in a matter of seconds

Some years ago, Chris Reynolds of Delaware County, Pennsylvania, US experienced one of the most unusual things that had ever happened to anyone: he became the wealthiest person in the world in a blink, beating the likes of Elon Musk, Bill Gates and Warren Buffet.

A record $92,233,720,368,547,800 - over 92 quadrillion - miraculously landed on his PayPal account.

His fortune was in fact bigger than the total amount of money currently available on the entire planet.

Reynolds admitted that the unbelievably high sum made him feel 'like a million bucks', especially since the most he had ever made on PayPal was 'a little over $1,000' selling a set of vintage BMW tires.

He said:

At first, I thought that I owed quadrillions.
It was quite a big surprise.

Here is what happened to the money

Sadly for him, his golden carriage of an astronomical PayPal amount turned into the pumpkin of his original balance in a matter of seconds, leaving him quadrillions poorer.

PayPal that realised their mistake, rushed to correct it and apologise to the confused customer.

A company statement read:

This is obviously an error and we appreciate that Mr. Reynolds understood this was the case.

But the mistake and the 'inconvenience' it caused haven’t been in vain as the money transfer service's ‘victim’ was offered a donation to be made on his behalf.

After withdrawing the money, PayPal sent an undisclosed amount of money to a charity of Reynolds' choice.

The organisation commented:

We think it's inspiring that he decided to use this occurrence to donate to a cause he believes in.
And we hope to honour this spirit by donating to a cause of his choice – we've reached out to him to make this offer and to let him know we are grateful that he's a customer!

According to Reynolds, if he got to keep this insane amount of cash he would help the US to ‘pay the national debt down' which stands at 'modest' $31.4 trillion - peanuts compared to the money he could have pocketed.
