Well, this family from Florida seems to have had other plans. Indeed, the family gathering took an unexpected turn when several people got into a fight. The scene quickly became dangerous, and a man tried to stop the brawl. One could say he was not successful, as a relative bit him in the leg, leaving a mark which eventually got infected. The man had to be hospitalized and nearly lost his leg.

Donnie Adams had bite marks on his leg

This eventful family meal took place in Tampa, Florida. Donnie Adams, 53, saw two of his relatives arguing and decided to step in. It's not clear what kind of relationship Donnie Adams had with the two people who were fighting, but one of them suddenly bit him in the thigh.

The story could have ended there, but after several days, he began to feel strange pain at the site of the bite. He told NBC that his leg kept getting worse.

By day number three, the leg was swollen, it felt very warm and I had problems with mobility and everything.

Indeed, the wound had begun to swell, and his skin had an unusual orange-peel appearance, as his doctor explained.

He got infected by flesh-eating bacteria

Had he not gone to hospital for treatment, Donnie Adams could have lost his leg. When he arrived at the emergency room, doctors rushed to operate him.

I knew it was serious then after I got the tetanus shot.
I had no imagination that it would be anything serious like this, that serious.

After examinations, the diagnosis was made: Donnie Adams had necrotizing fasciitis, a skin infection generally caused by streptococcus. Dr Brink told NBC:

The human mouth contains hundreds of different bacteria, but it’s rare for doctors to see patients with a human bite, let alone one that develops into a life-threatening infection.

Untreated, this kind of infection can be fatal. Fortunately, Donnie Adams was perfectly taken care of by the hospital staff, and his leg is now perfectly healed.
