Queen Elizabeth’s £4M tiara broke two hours before the ceremony

One of the worst things for a Princess happened on Elizabeth's wedding day: her tiara broke. For her ‘something borrowed’ Queen Elizabeth used her mother’s tiara, the Queen Mary Fringe tiara, which is reportedly worth £4M!

As then-Princess Elizabeth was having her hair fixed, the hairdresser snapped the tiara in half, as reported by Mirror. The Queen Mother tried to comfort her daughter by reminding her that there were still a couple of hours before the wedding and that she could wear a different tiara:

There are still two hours and there are other tiaras.

Luckily the royal jeweller was on hand and was able to take the tiara to their workshop, escorted by a police officer. The jeweller was able to fix the tiara in time for the ceremony.

The Queen Mary Fringe tiara was able to see another wedding when Princess Beatrice married Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in 2020.
