King Charles and Queen Camilla’s Pages of Honour

There was a lot of speculation about whether or not Queen Camilla’s family will have a role in the coronation. The public finally has the answer: Yes.

The Queen Consort will have three of her grandsons, Master Gus, Master Louis Lopes and Master Freddy Parker Bowles, and her great-nephew Master Arthur Elliot as her Pages of Honour.

For King Charles, 9-year-old Prince George will be the only member of his family to be a Page of Honour. The other three are Lord Oliver Cholmondeley, Master Nicholas Barclay and Master Ralph Tollemache.

The public is divided by Queen Camilla’s choice

The King and Queen announced their Pages of Honour in an Instagram post sharing a new portrait. Naturally, people flooded the comments to share their opinion. The reaction of the public is divided.

On the one hand, some agree with the decision to make the coronation a family affair. One user wrote:

A family affair - as it should be!

Another said:

So lovely that Camilla’s family members will have a place in the coronation

Others are also pleased that the young Prince George gets to play a prominent role in the coronation.

Queen Camilla is facing backlash for her family's role

On the other hand, not everyone is convinced that Camilla’s family deserves or has the right to be involved in the coronation. One user wrote:

Why her family gets to be included is completely lost on me. She is not the mother of the heirs to the throne and she has no legitimate claim to the throne.

Others have also pointed out that it doesn’t seem fair that Camilla has four family members taking part whereas Charles only has one:

So Camilla can have three of her grandchildren involved? I’m not a great fan of Harry but surely one? Of his children should also be involved?

However, what some people may not know is that King Charles’ three other Pages of Honour are children of some of his closest friends.

Lord Oliver Cholmondeley is the son of Charles’ newly appointed Lord in Waiting, David, the Marquess of Cholmondeley. Nicholas Barclay is Sarah Troughton’s grandson, one of Queen Camilla’s companions and oldest friends.

This comes after it is believed that King Charles’ nieces Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie will not have roles in the coronation as they are not working Royals.
