The thing with the ancestors

Prince Harry is one of the two sons that King Charles and Princess Diana had together. His brother, Prince William, was named after a former Royal and that's ultimately what happened to the Duke of Sussex. He was named after King Henry IV, but largely goes by his nickname 'Harry'.

However, the then-Prince Charles and Lady Diana had quite different plans. As Prince Harry recounts in his memoir, his parents actually wanted to name him Albert in honour of his great-grandfather, King George VI, whose birth name was Albert. In the end, however, Lady Di decided against the name, so now he bears the name Albert as a third name:Henry Charles Albert David.

The Royal nicknames

But it seems that names are just smoke and mirrors in the Royal palace anyway. For, as Prince Harry recounts in his biography, only nicknames are usually used in the Royal household - at least for the palace staff. For example, the private secretary of the then-Queen Elizabeth was nicknamed The Bee, which was likely meant in a derogatory way. Harry writes:

The Bee was oval-faced and fuzzy and tended to glide around with great equanimity and poise, as if he was a boon to all living things. He was so poised that people didn't fear him. Big mistake. Sometimes their last mistake.
