The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are no strangers to giving a furry pet a loving home as they already have two puppies. And the newest Sussex family member is Mamma Mia, a stunning beagle who is seven years old.

Mia was saved from overcrowded and unsanitary conditions at the Envigo breeding and research facility in Virginia back in July, along with thousands of other beagles. Her new home is now a sprawling estate in Montecito, where she can wander a beautiful 7-acre landscape.

The Sussexes are believed to have adopted the 7-year-old beagle for a cause. Mia is rescued from a charity called Beagle Freedom Project, confirms The Sun. The project director Shannon Keith said:

The Duchess, when she called me, said she’s been supporting Beagle Freedom Project for years and completely supports our mission.
She specifically said the reason she wanted to adopt from us was to get the message out that it’s important to adopt from animal testing and that she supports ending animal testing.

Shannon added that Mia was getting along well. The rescue dog will be joining the Sussex family home with a fellow beagle Guy and a black Labrador thought to be named Pula.

Bogart

This isn’t the first time that Meghan has adopted a dog for a cause. Back when she was in Canada, she also adopted a Labrador-German shepherd cross called Bogart. However, Bogart now lives with friends in Toronto.

The Duchess had a rescue beagle for many years, and when she heard of Envigo's closure, she was moved to action, according to Meghan's spokeswoman. Authorities claim beagles were put to death or left for dead by callous employees who frequently broke the Animal Welfare Act in a lawsuit they filed against the business in May.
