Archie’s near-death experience

During the podcast, the Duchess also spoke about a near-death experience that Archie had to face. Describing the heart-wrenching moment on her podcast, she spoke about how Archie’s nursery caught fire during one of their stays in South Africa.

Back in 2019, the Sussexes visited Nyanga in Cape Town for work commitments and took Archie along with them, reports Express.co.uk. Right after they landed, they dropped off Archie at the nursery of the housing unit they were staying in and went on for the official engagement. It was only after they were done with it that Meghan was told about the fire in the baby’s room. She confirmed:

We finish the engagement, we get in the car and they say 'there's been a fire at the residence. There's been a fire in the baby's room'.
She [nanny Lauren] was supposed to put Archie down for his nap and she just said: 'You know what? Let me just go get a snack downstairs.
In that amount of time that she went downstairs, the heater in the nursery caught on fire.
There was no smoke detector. Someone happened to just smell smoke down the hallway, went in, fire extinguished. He was supposed to be sleeping in there.

She also added how shaken everyone was from the incident:

As a mother, you go, Oh, my God, what?
Everyone's in tears, everyone's shaken. And what do we have to do? Go out and do another official engagement.
