Meghan Markle hints at getting back on Instagram, says she’s ready to share updates with the world again

Ever since stepping down from the position of senior royals and shutting down the @sussexroyal Instagram account, Prince Harry and Meghan don’t have an Instagram presence. The constant bullying and trolls on social media were a bit too much for Meghan to handle. However, the Duchess seemed to have changed her mind as she announced she may get back on Instagram.

Socially media history

Before marrying Prince Harry, Meghan boosted a whooping 3 million Instagram followers and shared her life updates with them. After getting married in the Royal Family, things were scrutinised for the Duchess, according to what she told The Cut in a recent interview. She was allowed to use the already existing Instagram account of Prince William, Kate and Prince Harry—@KensingtonRoyal.

Even the posts on this Instagram account had to go through a lengthy process of getting approvals. Meghan shared:

There's literally a structure by which if you want to release photos of your child, as a member of the family, you first have to give them to the Royal Rota.

Needless to say, the Duchess didn’t approve of the process. She added:

Why would I give the very people that are calling my children the N-word a photo of my child before I can share it with the people that love my child? You tell me how that makes sense and then I'll play that game.

So, Meghan and Prince Harry went on to launch their own Instagram account—@sussexroyal—where they posted updates without approval and as per their own wish. That Instagram account had a good run until they left the firm and had to stop using ‘royal’ in their branding.

Comeback time

For a long time after leaving the firm, Meghan was concerned about the addictive nature of social media and stayed off it for her ‘own self-preservation.’ She expressed she didn’t want to be a part of all the bullying and troll drama.

The Duchess, however, opened up about thinking to get back on Instagram. Her podcast ‘Archetypes’ has given her a way to use her voice and she feels more than prepared to share her life with people now. The Cut revealed:

Then, in the lull in conversation, Meghan turns to me and leans forward to ask in a conspiratorial hush, 'Do you want to know a secret?'
Meghan, silenced no more, looks around, making sure nobody (who would be?) is listening in. Then the top-secret drop: 'I’m getting back … on Instagram,' she says, her eyes alight and devilish.

Looks like the Sussexes have finally moved past all the drama that defined their life for the last three years.
