Ever since Charles ascended to the throne, a significant question that lies on his head is the titles of Prince Harry and Meghan’s children.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s children were never automatically given the titles of HRH (His/Her Royal Highness) Prince and Princess as they were the great-grandchildren of the ruling monarch. However, after Charles ascended to the throne, they became grandchildren, meaning, automatically entitled to the HRH Prince and Princess titles.

Would Charles give them the title?

King Charles or Buckingham Palace have not yet publicly addressed the issue or even updated Archie and Lilibet’s title on the Royal Family’s website. It is believed that King Charles is waiting for the Sussex couple’s media project – namely the memoir and Netflix docuseries – to release and he would then decide on the titles.

He may remove the titles if the media projects criticise or negatively remark on The Firm based on ‘slimming down the monarchy.’ However, the decision to grant or revoke titles to Sussex children could prove to be a ‘time bomb’ for the Royal Family.

Newsweek’s The Royal Report podcast discussed the issue at length keeping in mind how Meghan recently said she would let Archie and Lilibet have a career in the entertainment industry. Chief royal correspondent Jack Royston said:

Can you imagine 20 years from now, Archie or Lili giving interviews that they were stripped of the titles they had a birthright to because of racism? This could be a time bomb for around about the time that William could be taking over as the new king. That would be a mega interview even then.

Play the ‘long game’

Royal commentator Kristen Meinzer concluded that both Archie and Lilibet are going to be famous in the future, ‘whether or not they choose to work in the entertainment industry the same way their mom did, whether they choose to be philanthropists.’ He advised King Charles to play the ‘long game’ and said:

I think that he needs to seriously listen to what Meghan has said here and play the long game and think about the fact that these two kids are going to be adults one day.

However, he also discussed that the titles could be a significant issue in the future when they become adults and so he added:

Just give them the titles now. They are going to be famous whether you like it or not.
