Meyrick Sheen was a Jack Nicholson lookalike
As per Daily Mail, Michael Sheen was born in Newport, Monmouthshire in Wales. His father, Meyrick, was a British Steel Corporation personnel manager and his mother, Irene, was a secretary.
The Sheen family briefly moved to Wallasey before settling in Port Talbot, Wales. Michael’s love for acting was likely inspired by his parents, who often took part in local amateur operatics and musicals.
Moreover, Meyrick had a second job as a Jack Nicholson lookalike and travelled the world. This allowed Meyrick to fund his pension.
According to Nation Cymru, Meyrick Sheen had a heart attack in 2021, which resulted in him needing a quadruple bypass. This led the family to support the British Heart Foundation.
Following his surgery, Meyrick and Irene donated their son’s clothes to the British Heart Foundation, with Meyrick explaining that his surgery allowed him to have ‘an active and happy life’.
Thanks to my heart surgery I’ve been able to have an active and happy life.
Michael Sheen chose not to live in Hollywood
As mentioned above, Michael Sheen decided he didn’t want to live in Hollywood like most successful actors do. He briefly lived in Los Angeles, but a few years ago, he settled in his home country, Wales, in Port Talbot.
Sheen lives with his girlfriend, Anna Lundberg, 31, and their two daughters, Lyra, five, and Mabli, two.
In 2024, Michael told The Sunday Times that he left Hollywood after working on a play in Port Talbot in 2011. He explained that he saw the cost-of-living crisis and job cuts and decided he had to help.
He soon realised that some initiatives and charities needed high-profile help and support. Thanks to his position as a successful actor, Michael understood the impact he could have.
Once you become aware of difficulties in the area you come from, you don’t have to do anything. You can live somewhere else, visit family at Christmas and turn a blind eye to injustice.
I’d seen something I couldn’t unsee. I had to apply myself, and I might not have the impact I’d like, but the one thing that I can say is that I’m doing stuff. I know I am — I’m paying for it!
He then added:
It’d take a lot for me to work in America again — my life is elsewhere.
