According to The Sun, Mel had thought that she would spend the day in Kingston Hospital, South West London. However, on Sunday evening she posted a snap with her husband Gareth and 8-year-old daughter Madison in festive jumpers. She wrote a caption:

Driving home for Christmas.

The E4 reality TV show star went for a scan after she experienced stomach cramps while shooting in Australia. She hinted that if the 5-cm tumour had gone undetected for much longer, it would have killed her.

What happened to Mel Schilling? Her cancer diagnosis explained

Breaking the news on her Instagram, Mel revealed that her world has been turned upside down by the cancer diagnosis. On December 19, she shared:

Last Thursday my consultant told me those 3 words... 'You have cancer'... About a month ago when I was filming in Australia I developed severe stomach cramps on set, I put it down to all the travel I’d been doing and the upset it caused to my system.
I saw my GP in Sydney and he put it down to constipation, gave me some laxatives and sent me on my way. Fortunately I knew something still wasn’t right so I booked in for a scan when I returned to the UK.
On Thursday I was told I had colon cancer and in an instant my whole life changed.

Although she was diagnosed with cancer, Mel revealed that she felt ‘blessed’ that it was a cancer that could be easily ‘eradicated.’ She added:

I feel incredibly blessed that it’s a cancer that is relatively easy to eradicate, I’m expected to make a full recovery though it’s a rough road ahead.
I also feel so lucky to have an incredible support network around me, both personally and professionally, my own family and my TV family have been amazing this past few days.

The reality TV star has now happily returned to her home after successfully battling cancer.
