Ivanka Trump may be known for her loyalty to her famous father (despite recent backlash for calling her father-in-law ‘dad’), but her recent book recommendation has turned heads.

The former presidential advisor took to Instagram to promote Untamed, a bestselling memoir by Glennon Doyle—an author known for her outspoken disapproval of Donald Trump and his administration. While Ivanka insists she's stepping away from politics to focus on her family, this literary nod to someone who once said, ‘If Trump wins, we lose,’ has left followers intrigued.
Is this simply a nod to self-help wisdom, or is Ivanka subtly distancing herself from her father’s political legacy? Here’s what we know.
Ivanka Trump promotes book of Trump critic
Over the weekend, Ivanka Trump shared a snapshot on her Instagram story showing the memoir Untamed by Glennon Doyle nestled among highlights of her week. The move came as a surprise to many, considering Doyle’s well-documented political stance.
Ivanka, who has previously declared that she loves 'policy and impact' but hates politics, has been notably absent from her father’s political comeback. Speaking on the Skinny Confidential podcast earlier this year, she said:
To some degree, I'm at the centre of the storm because my father is about to be president. It's a very dark negative. And some people love like the gladiator aspect of it, you know, the fight that, that was never me.
Despite attending Donald Trump’s inauguration in January, Ivanka has maintained her distance. Her recommendation of Doyle’s book adds to a pattern of behaviour where she engages more with cultural content than political agendas.
Her recent reading list, according to The Daily Mail, includes titles like Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin and Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl, reflecting her diverse and perhaps introspective literary taste. But Untamed, by an author who openly campaigned for Kamala Harris, has clearly piqued interest.
Who is Glennon Doyle?
Glennon Doyle is not just a bestselling author; she is a beacon of resilience and transformation. The Virginia-born writer first gained traction with her blog Momastery, where she shared candid reflections on her struggles with bulimia, addiction, and mental health.
Her breakthrough book Carry On, Warrior sold over 200,000 copies and landed her on the New York Times bestseller list. But her personal life took centre stage when, during a promotional tour, she learned her husband had been unfaithful. This led to her second book, Love Warrior, which detailed their emotional journey.
However, it was while promoting Love Warrior that Doyle met former US soccer player Abby Wambach. Their connection led to a new chapter in Doyle’s life. The two eventually married in 2017. Doyle kept this relationship under wraps during her book tour, but later opened up fully in Untamed.
The memoir blends personal storytelling with powerful self-help insights. Its message? Women should stop pleasing and start living. As she writes:
When women lose themselves, the world loses its way. We do not need any more selfless women... THIS IS HOW YOU FIND YOURSELF.
Doyle is also the founder of Together Rising, a women-led non-profit that supports families and children in crisis. Her ability to merge activism, vulnerability, and empowerment has earned her a loyal following—including, it seems, Adele, who called Doyle an 'absolute don' and said her writing would 'shake your brain'.
What has she said against Trump?
Doyle has never been shy about her political views, especially concerning Donald Trump. Her opposition was front and centre during the 2024 presidential election, when she campaigned heavily for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.
In an Instagram post during the Democratic National Convention, Doyle declared:
We will watch knowing we did everything, everything in our power to keep our children, your children, all children protected from Donald Trump and JD Vance having any power at all over their planet, their families, their bodies, their futures.
Her concerns extended into October when she posted:
There are 19 Days until Election Day: The day that will determine whether we will – or will not – have the right to make decisions about our bodies and our lives. And whether future generations will have fundamental freedoms.
Doyle even hosted Senator Elizabeth Warren on her podcast We Can Do Hard Things during election season, wearing a Harris-Walz camouflage cap and using her platform to raise over $1 million with 44,000 women for Kamala Harris.
