Ivanka Trump is the President’s second child from his first marriage to Ivana Trump. In 2009, she married American businessman and investor Jared Kushner, after dating since 2005. The couple briefly broke up in 2008 after Kushner’s parents disapproved of the relationship due to religious beliefs.

Ivanka and Jared have three children. Their daughter was born in July 2011, their first son was born in October 2013, and their second son was born in March 2016. Safe to say, the couple have been together a long time, which would have allowed Ivanka to become close with her in-laws.
Indeed, Ivanka recently congratulated her father-in-law, Charles Kushner, on his new position as US Ambassador to France. Her post was highly criticised due to her choice of words.
Ivanka Trump calls her father-in-law dad
On May 20, 2025, it was announced that Charles Kushner, Ivanka’s father-in-law, was appointed as the new US Ambassador to France.
Naturally, following the news, Ivanka congratulated Charles. She reposted the announcement on X as she wrote that she was proud of him. However, Trump’s daughter faced major backlash as she called her father-in-law ‘dad’ in her post.
Congratulations, dad. I am proud of you! 🇺🇸

Félicitations, papa. Je suis fière de toi! 🇫🇷 https://t.co/MfNC99OReW
Several X users claimed she was ‘disrespecting’ her own father by calling Charles ‘dad’. One user wrote:
Please refrain from disrespecting THE most revered man on Earth aside from God; your biological Father @POTUS
Another user shared the same sentiment:
Absolutely insulting to our beloved @POTUS & all of America & the world
While another user questioned, ‘Who the f**k calls their father-in-law dad?’ Even though Ivanka was being criticised, her language wasn’t the only thing some social media users took issue with.
Charles Kushner as the US Ambassador to France is controversial
As with many of President Trump’s new cabinet appointments, his latest choice can be deemed controversial. As mentioned above, Charles Kushner has been named the new US Ambassador to France. This choice is ‘questionable’ as, much like Trump, Kushner is a convicted felon.
According to the Irish Star, Kushner was convicted of illegal campaign contributions, tax evasion, and witness tampering. He was sentenced to two years in prison and disbarred in three states.
However, Kushner only served 16 months of his two-year sentence at the Federal Prison Camp. In 2020, President Donald Trump pardoned him.
Due to his criminal past, many social media users have questioned the President’s choice of Kushner as the US Ambassador to France.
One user wrote:
How and why is he out of prison? Thought he never paid taxes and was paying off politicians for financial gain. He was guilty of that, right?
Another accused Kushner of nepotism, due to being a criminal yet securing such an important position in politics:
He’s a criminal who has no business in that position. This is just straight up nepotism.
Another X user questioned the state of the world, in which convicted felons can hold ‘jobs with power’:
It's a strange world when convicted felons can hold jobs with power. It's sickening.
