When Peter Andre sat down to share his thoughts on family life, his words struck a chord with anyone watching their kids grow up and move out. The “Mysterious Girl” singer, now 53, faces a new family chapter as his 20-year-old son Junior sets up house with his girlfriend. Yet instead of dwelling on empty nest anxiety, Peter’s view is surprisingly upbeat. Reflecting in his column for new!, he confesses that, unlike many, he feels a “slightly different” kind of anticipation—a vision that involves looking forward to possible grandchildren and watching his children build their own worlds.

Looking ahead: Peter’s positive perspective on change
As friends and celebrities share their worries about family life transitions, Peter’s response offers a fresh angle. Reacting to actress Joanna Page—best known for her role in "Gavin & Stacey"—and her visible anxiety about children growing up, he says:
“Gavin & Stacey star Joanna Page is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. […] I saw recently she’d said she worries about her children flying the nest one day. Although I totally get that, I try and look at it a slightly different way.”
Rather than focusing on loss, Peter finds happiness in possibility. He explains:
“I have the hope that one of our children may have children, and we’ll do it all again, as grandparents! Yes, it’s sad but I also love seeing them growing up.”
Family routines, new independence and musical moments
The Andre family’s dynamic is shifting, but some comforting routines remain. Even as Junior steps into adulthood, Princess—the singer’s 18-year-old daughter—still lives at home and sends him her daily “what’s for dinner?” message.
His wife Emily feels those empty nest pangs far more acutely, but Peter focuses on the happiness of watching his five children—Princess (18), Junior (20), Millie (12), Theo (9), and Belle (22 months)—grow into themselves. H
is own musical story also finds unexpected echoes in his children’s lives; Millie apparently has “Flava,” his 1996 chart-topper, quietly tucked into her playlist.
“It was really interesting to hear about how Hilary Duff’s kids think she’s cool, now she’s launched a comeback with her world tour. […] I did happen to hear Millie’s playlist recently. She had Flava on it, my number one hit in 1996! I was secretly buzzing although I was one of hundreds of people on the playlist, but at least I made the list, LOL!”
For Theo, Michael Jackson tops the charts, but Peter’s latest single still sneaks in:
“Theo’s number one artist is Michael Jackson, good taste in music, I say! However, I do hear him occasionally play my new son Rock U Right - so I'm obviously buzzing about that too!”
Hopes, worries, and sharing the stage with a new generation
Peter’s reflections are rooted in real family ups and downs. Emily—his wife and co-pilot in this stage of parenthood—shares the classic parental worry: what happens when the house is finally quiet? But for Peter, the joy in his growing family overlaps with pride in his career. He cheerfully notes how his success has started to mean something to his children as they discover, for themselves, the music that once made him a household name. There’s something infectious in his optimism: the sadness of children leaving is outshone by the anticipation of celebrating milestones over again as a granddad. Not everyone copes with change by finding the silver lining, but in Peter’s case, it’s clear that family always tops the charts—even above an international music comeback.
