For several years, Gabriel Attal had been one of the best-known faces in President Macron's political family. Until Tuesday, January 9, 2024, when French President Emmanuel Macron appointed him Prime Minister, following Elisabeth Borne's departure from Matignon. At 34, he thus became the youngest Prime Minister of the Fifth Republic.

Gabriel Attal was born on March 16, 1989 in Clamart, Hauts-de-Seine. He was a member of the Socialist Party (PS) before joining La République En Marche (LREM), the political party founded by Emmanuel Macron. Gabriel Attal graduated with a law degree from Assas in 2010, followed by a master's degree in public affairs from Sciences po Paris in 2013. The Prime Minister comes from a wealthy family. His father, Yves Attal, was a lawyer and film producer. He notably worked with director Pedro Almodóvar. He died in 2015 of cancer at the age of 66. His mother, Marie de Couriss, worked for a production company.

Gabriel Attal has a nice life insurance policy

At 34 years of age, Gabriel Attal already has an impressive CV. And if his declaration of assets is anything to go by, so is his portfolio. In 2022, BFM Business reported that the thirty-something was already a millionaire. Stéphane Séjourné's companion owns life insurance worth a total of 1.46 million euros, a figure dating from April 2016.

According to Gabriel Attal's declaration of assets, he also held over 61,000 euros in his current account at the bank and just under 70,000 euros in a PEL (home savings plan). His total financial assets amounted to 1.59 million euros.

At the time, this sum put him right on the heels of former Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne (1.67 million euros), again according to 2016 figures. Unlike the head of government, he does not own any real estate. However, the dashing 34-year-old usually spends his holidays in a sumptuous house on Île aux Moines, in the Gulf of Morbihan.

And there's more to come. Gabriel Attal also owns an 11% stake in a non-trading property company that owns a 110 square-meter residence in Corsica. His 11% is valued at 130,000 euros. He also owns a Piaggio Vespa 50 scooter, acquired in 2014. Nevertheless, Prime Minister Gabriel Attal must repay a loan of 670,000 euros, contracted in June 2017 and not yet repaid, according to his declaration to the HATVP.

Millionaire at just 34

The man who studied political science at Assas shares the life of a politician very close to power. Stéphane Séjourné, with whom he is in a civil union, although there are numerous rumours claiming the couple is separated, is one of Emmanuel Macron's advisors. The two lovers are said to have met at a business meeting held at Bercy in 2015, as revealed by a witness present that day in the columns of Le Monde. A beautiful love story that has lasted for eight years, although neither Attal nor Séjourné have confirmed or denied the rumours of separation.

In his book, the controversial lawyer Juan Branco had claimed that Gabriel Attal had 'slept his way to the top' since he was in a civil union with one of Macron's political advisor, referring to Stéphane Séjourné. The politician responded in an interview with Closer in 2019:

That didn't keep me awake at night. When we were in high school, he was already running a skyblog where he insulted me. I'll leave him to his fixette and his mythos.
