Pitt's art is 'about where I've gotten it wrong in my relationships'

Pitt’s sculptures feature in the exhibition of world-renowned British artist Thomas Houseago, alongside the ceramic works of Australian musician Nick Cave. The museum said on their website:

Cave and Pitt are already renowned in their respective fields of music and cinema, but this is the first time ever they have exhibited their artwork – pieces which were created during the course of an ongoing dialogue with Houseago.

The actor, who is 'largely self taught,' told Finnish broadcaster Yle at the opening 'for Nick and I this is a new world and our first entry. It just feels right,' as reported by The Guardian.

Pitt described his work at the opening:

To me it’s about self-reflection. It’s about where I have gotten it wrong in my relationships, where have I misstepped, where am I complicit. For me, it was born out of ownership of what I call a radical inventory of self, getting really brutally honest with me and taking account of those I may have hurt, moments I have just gotten wrong.

The importance of art

According to GQ Magazine, he started learning ceramics during the Covid-19 pandemic. He said in the interview:

I’m one of those creatures that speaks through art. I just want to always make. If I’m not making, I’m dying in some way.

At the time, he described his ceramic practice not as an art form but as a 'solo, very quiet, very tactile kind of sport.' He continued:

Art is something inexplicable. Art is something that gives you goose bumps, that makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck, that brings a tear to the eye. Maybe it’s because someone understood before you, you’re not alone.
