'Bestie' Rapper Bhad Bhabie Being Slammed on Social Media for 'Blackfishing'

American rapper Bhad Bhabie aka Danielle Bregoli is best known for her hit single 'Bestie' which features Kodak Black. You may also recognize her from a 2017 episode of Dr. Phil on which she is portrayed as an out of control teen who would steal cars and was immensely 'controversial' for appropriating African-American culture.

Well, Danielle, 17, has once again made headlines thanks to a recent post she made on Instagram. The young rapper looks totally unrecognizable as it appears that she has visibly darker skin tone and fuller lips than from previous posts.

The post was immediately met with criticism by other users. With comments such as:

When did she become a whole other race
You want us to forget that you was just Caucasian last week

The idea of 'blackfishing' and cultural appropriation is not a new concept. It's been a topic of discussion for years and continues to be one as we see young women being criticized for being themselves, yet others get rewarded when they claim a certain culture as their own and flaunt their 'style' on social media.

Some users on Twitter claimed to have seen this coming after the young rapper was unnecessarily launched into stardom and rewarded via followers on her social media pages after being on Dr. Phil and going viral for the video 'cash me outside' during a rant on the show.

They seem to think that some of the same people who are now criticizing her are the same ones that should be blamed, as through following her and commenting on her photos they have given her attention and raised controversy around this now 'celebrity'.

The rapper herself spoke out about the attention she's been receiving on social media regarding her transformation.

Millions of people sick, thousands dying every day and y’all worried about me getting make up done for a photoshoot?
I’m usually the wild one but y’all need to chill and focus on what’s important right now.

To be honest, we can't totally disagree with this statement, as it seems we all have much more important things we should be focusing on right now given what is going on with the coronavirus.

She later shot down her own wisdom after commenting:

Aww I'm trending... thank you

Maybe situations like these are better off given no attention if we want so desperately for them to go away...
