The lemon myth

Unfortunately, we’re going to have to disappoint you. This isn’t actually true. Drinking lemon water does not burn fat. Sure, if you swap out your latte with whipped cream for water with a bit of lemon, you will naturally reduce your calorie intake and, surprise, surprise, lose weight. But lemon water is certainly not asecret diet elixir.

Lemon strengthens your body’s defences and digestive system

That being said, the acidity in lemons does actually have a positive impact on your body. It helps your digestive system stay on track by stimulating bile production which helps to digest fats, but this has no influence on current fatty tissue stores.

Thanks to their antioxidants and high vitamin C content, lemons also strengthen your immune system. But watch out, consuming too much can also be harmful because of their acidity as it can damage your teeth enamel.

Water helps you with your diet

If you are looking for a trick on how to lose as much weight as possible alongside doing exercise and following a balanced diet, then drink a glass of water before each meal. A study that was featured in the Obesity journal has proved that drinking water before you eat will help you feel full quicker and therefore eat less as a result.

Of course, you can still drink lemon water if you want to. It’s also a good idea to eat foods that provide energy before you do any type of strength training so that you have enough to get you through your workout.
