Ben Farina and Claire Moran didn't think they would ever be able to afford to get married. But then Ben managed to nab a cancellation at their dream venue, Knockerdown Farm in Gainsborough, Lincs. The venue normally costs £14,000 but Ben got a discounted price of £10,000. He won't be paying a penny of it himself, though. Instead, he's charging each of his 60 guests £150 each to stay onsite over the wedding weekend. There are also 20 kids invited who'll be charged £50 a head. Guests will get a three night stay at Knockerdown cottages with full access to the pool and spa.

For their wedding meal, Ben and Claire are laying on a hog roast, which is costing them £250. They're also cutting costs elsewhere by having a family member make the canapes and Claire's teenage daughter, who studies hair and beauty at college, do the bridal party's makeup. With the cost of the venue totally covered by the guests, Ben and Claire will be spending a grand total of £3000 on their big day.

Ben said, 'It might sound stingy but as a guest myself at other weddings I’ve had to fork out more than that for hotels. The way I see it is they’re getting a weekend away, which is basically a holiday, and we get a free wedding. It works for everyone.'

People are divided on whether this is a clever way to afford the dream wedding day or if it's just plain rude to ask guests to cough up for an event they've been invited to...
