For many of us, it's possibly the worst thing imaginable. Getting yourself into a situation that you have no control over is bad enough in any case. So imagine the fear that two skiers encountered whilst being stuck on their ski lift in the heart of Storm Eleanor. On the 3rd of January, 2018, the storm crossed over into France and passed through the Alps. At Gaschurn ski station in Austria, holidaymakers found themselves caught up in the thick of it. As the station closed, the storm had already made it's presence known and gusts of wind started to sweep their way through the area. The problem? Skiers still on the ski lifts, were naturally brought to a halt by the violent bursts of wind.

With the savage storm now present more than ever, the ski lifts quickly began to swing from left to right, so strong that it seems like they could have detached from the cable at any point. The skiers themselves could do nothing but wait. When wind gusts at the same frequency as the ski lift moves, its known as the scientific phenomenon, resonance. Unfortunately for the skiers, this would have made the effects of the wind much worse. Some of the skiers also caught in the storm, luckily managed to find shelter by a pylon. So, fortunately, nobody was injured or hurt.
