The term ‘Mandela effect’ was coined by writer and paranormal expert Fiona Broom. This term is used when we believe in something that actually turns out to be a false memory. In other words, this phenomenon is linked to a mistaken word-of-mouth principle. The expression was inspired by the story of Nelson Mandela, who many people thought had died in prison in the 1980s, when in fact he was incarcerated but still alive.

The craziest Mandela effects

There are several examples of this phenomenon, the most glaring being that of a passage in the animated Snow White film. In the collective unconscious, everyone believes the quote attributed to the wicked queen in front of her mirror is ‘Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?’, but this is false! We’ll let you discover what the real quote is in the film, when you dive back into your classic collection.

Another example is the Kit Kat chocolate bar! Many people think there is a hyphen between Kit and Kat but this is not the case.

The Monopoly board game is also making our heads spin. In your opinion, does Mr. Moneybags wear a monocle or not? He doesn’t, the Mandela effect strikes once again!

Still on the gaming side, he rocked our childhood on Nintendo or Game Boy, Mario! According to you, does he say ‘let’s goooo’ or ‘mexicooo’? He says ‘let’s go.’ We admit with the Italian accent it can be a bit confusing and hard to hear.

As a final example, the iconic Pokemon Pikachu’s tail has also undergone the Mandela effect. If you thought he has a black tip at the end of his tail, you’re mistaken.
