Maura’s DOI partner confirms split after ‘curse’ rumours

Dancing On Ice professional Alexander Demetriou has confirmed that he has split from fellow professional ice dancer Carlotta Edwards after four years of marriage. In recent months the couple had been dogged by rumours about Alexander’s close relationship with Love Island’s Maura Higgins, who he was partnered with on the show.

Yet more sad celebrity relationship news as Dancing On Ice pros Alexander Demetriou and Carlotta Edwards have confirmed that their marriage is over. The couple had been married for four years but won’t face the awkwardness of being stuck in lockdown together as Carlotta had already returned to Canada before quarantine began.

The professional ice dancers had previously made the decision to take a break from their marriage after rumours about Alexander’s relationship with Maura Higgins put a strain on their relationship and both were seen without their wedding rings in January. Both Alexander and Maura deny that anything romantic happened between them.

Alexander made the announcement in an Instagram story, saying:

I'm sorry I have been quiet on social media recently but it's been a tough time for me personally. Carlotta and I have separated. Although it saddens me that we can no longer be together, I feel this is best for both of us. I'm looking forward to what the future will bring but in the meantime let's all say home and stay safe. Alex xx.

Despite Alexander and Maura’s insistence that they’re nothing more than friends, this news will do nothing to calm rumours of a Dancing On Ice ‘curse’ similar to the infamous ‘Strictly curse’ which has seen many celebrities and professional dancers end their relationships over the years after growing close to their partners on the show.

Maura’s own split with fellow Islander Curtis Pritchard also coincided with her time on the show, with Curtis admitting that whilst he had ‘no proof’ that anything happened between Alex and Maura, it was ‘not nice to read about her relationship with Alex and to see pictures of them together.’
