Being in a friendship couple on Love Island is always a risky position—particularly when there’s a new bombshell about. OG Islander Sharon Gaffka learned this the hard way on Sunday night’s episode as new girl AJ Bunker got first pick at the recoupling and chose to couple up with Hugo, leaving Sharon single.
While her exit from the villa was only shown to viewers on Sunday night’s episode, the dumping had clearly been filmed in advance as Sharon appeared on After Sun live with Laura Whitmore straight after the main show ended. And of course Laura wanted to hear her thoughts on AJ and Hugo.
Sharon Gaffka speaks out about AJ and Hugo
Appearing via video link, Sharon said:
I saw chemistry from AJ to Hugo but not necessarily reciprocated based on conversations that I have had with Hugo about their chats it felt like one-sided. Hugo has always been very open with me about his chats with AJ so I didn't see anything working there.
I’ve said to him on multiple occasions that he needs to be more open minded because your 100 per cent perfect girl may never walk through the door. I think he gave AJ that chance but I think there are qualities that Hugo really needs that aren’t there in AJ.
Who are the current couplings on Love Island 2021?
It’s all change again after Sunday night’s dramatic recoupling where the two new bombshells got first picks. AJ chose to couple up with Hugo, while new boy Danny chose to couple up with Lucinda. Jake and Liberty are still coupled up, as are Millie and Liam, Teddy and Faye, and Toby and Chloe. Meanwhile Aaron is once again in a friendship couple with Kaz.
