Known for his roles in The 40-Year-Old Virgin and especially Superbad, Jonah Hill has distanced himself from his humorous sidekick image over the past few years by taking surprising parts in films such as Moneyball and Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot by Gus Van Sant.

In the latter the comedian lost a lot of weight and was looking quite thin, which is again the case in Maniac. Jonah Hill plays Owen Milgrim, a young man who finds himself, along with Emma Stone’s character, linked to pharmaceutical trials that turn into a disaster.
The first footage teases a beautiful chemistry between the two actors and a delightfully muted tone. Directed by Cary Fukunaga, of Jane Eyre and the first season of True Detective fame, the series will be available on Netflix September 21st.
