When a group of divers went looking for a sea monster in the waters of Lake Van in eastern Turkey, they made a mind-blowing discovery. In the middle of the 3555 square kilometres that make this lake the largest in the country, they were surprised to find a mysterious castle.

3000 years old, this vast submerged castle was built by the people of Urartu, a kingdom established between the ninth and sixth century BC. The first question that comes to mind is how could this castle have been built underwater, in the Iron Age? In reality, it was built while the water level of the lake was minimal. And when it climbed, the inhabitants were of course forced to leave the place. Today, the depth of the lake is 150 metres.
