Limescale is a white, chalky residue that builds up in kettles and coffee machines. It is most noticeable on stainless steel. Limescale is a typical problem in hard water places due to high magnesium and calcium concentrations. At high boiling temperatures, the calcium bicarbonate in the water is converted to an insoluble form of calcium carbonate. Simply put, boiling water reduces hardness by causing it to remain on the kettle over time.

Now, limescale might not have any crucial health side effects, however, it directly affects the quality of tea produced from it, looks unattractive, and shortens the lifespan of the kettle. Fortunately, many ways help get rid of the limescale and restore the taste of the tea and quality of the kettle.

Lemon

One of the best ways to clean the limescale on the tea kettle is using lemon. Due to its high citric content, it is effective for cleaning kettles and serves as a good option for a long time. To use lemon, pour some lemonjuice into the kettle and add water to it. Let the kettle boil and leave the hot mixture in it for about 30 minutes. Once it cools down, drain the mixture after vigorously shaking it in the kettle. Repeat until there is no residue left. Additionally, you could also use a brush to scrape the limescale as well.

Vinegar

Vinegar works great for cleaning kitchen utensils, it can be used to eliminate stains, rust, and irritations. Along with limescale, it can also be used to eliminate mineral deposits. To use vinegar as a cleaning agent, pour equal parts of water and vinegar in the kettle and boil it. When it's lukewarm, use a brush to scrape off the limescale deposit from the kettle. To fully clean it, use a damp cloth to reach the edges.

Baking Soda

Another amazing solution when it comes to cleaning the kettles is using baking soda. It works wonders as a tea kettle cleaner. To use it, mix a teaspoon of baking soda with water and boil the solution in the kettle. Once it’s done, clean the inside with a soft bristle sponge and scrub away any lingering mineral remains. Allow the kettle to dry after rinsing it with clean water.
