The importance of properly storing your food

According to the experts, one of the easiest ways of saving yourself money in these trying times is to learn how to properly store your food. As an added bonus, this will also cut down on unnecessary waste. Which? money expert Reena Sewraz told the DailyMail:

This crisis is putting a lot of families under pressure but many people aren’t aware that simply storing your food differently can vastly extend its shelf life, saving you money.

What are these money-saving fridge hacks?

You've most likely been storing your food wrong this entire time and considerably shortening the shelf life of your food. As it turns out, eggs should be put in the freezer, but only after cracking and beating them before storing them in container. Another common food that should always go in fridge's freezer is bread.

Apples can last up to 77 days longer if they are stored inside your fridge as opposed to the common mistake of leaving them out in a centrepiece bowl on your dining room table. Next on the list are mushrooms and these should always be wrapped in paper or placed in a paper bag and stored in your fridge to maximise their shelf life.

Lastly, cucumbers and stoned fruits such as peaches, plums and cherries should never be stored inside your fridge as they tend to ripen better when they are left outside.
