In Canada, a young woman decided to get a tattoo on the inside of her eye... and ended up with a serious infection.
Tattooing is an art, but it is also rooted in your skin for life. It is a true fashion phenomenon and we're meeting more and more people with tattoos on parts of their body that are more or less conventional. A tattoo on the inside of the eye is obviously the latter.
A young woman who lives in Ottawa, Canada, wanted to get a tattoo on the sclera, the white part of the eye. Unfortunately, she may lose her sight. 1 month after she got her tattoo, the state of her eye is getting worse every day and she post photos on social networks to raise awareness about the complications of this kind of tattoo.
The cause of this infection? Probably an unsterilized needle... For every new tattoo, the needle needs to be changed. Catt Gallinger's eye changed colour after the procedure: "This was caused by undiluted ink, over-injection and a lack of injection sites," she explains.
The young woman was hospitalized three times to try to save her eye. Doctors have prescribed antibiotics and she has to use eye drops. But that doesn't preclude the fact that she risks losing her sight gradually. A surgery will be necessary to fix it... but there's no guarantee of success.
