Isolation and loneliness are an elderly person’s worst enemy. In 2017, 300,000 people over the age of 60 were left alone and didn’t see anyone whatsoever; no friends, no family. This kind of loneliness has a major impact on your health and your life expectancy.

Family: the best medicine in the world

Researchers at the University of California in San Francisco conducted a study with 1,600 people over for the age of 71. The results were clear. Elderly people who have no contact with those who are close to them and spend every day by themselves die earlier than those who do.

The reasons are simple. First of all, when you see your grandparents regularly, you can keep an eye on their state of health and do something if you believe something is wrong with them. You will also be a support system when your grandma or grandpa needs to seek healthcare. This attention, no matter how small, can be enormously helpful. And that’s not all, seeing those close to you has a very positive impact on an elderly person’s moral. The fact that they get to see their children and grandchildren makes them feel good about themselves, which in turn is good for their health and that’s why their life expectancy increases. So why not just swing by for a cup of tea?
