The elderly gentleman has unfortunately lost all his memories and abilities, except for one, his passion for music. Inexplicably, he has managed to retain all of his musical skills and in the video, you can witness how he seems to ‘come back to life’ when he plays the piano.
Although it seems hard to believe, the man can play music perfectly, despite not being able to remember anything or anyone. As one Twitter user explained, this is possible because musical memory is stored in another part of the brain:
Procedural memory and musical memory can be found in anatomical areas that are not usually damaged by dementia, or at least not until very advanced stages, and this explains phenomena such as this which are beautiful and show just how magnificent and complex the human brain is.
This video is an example of just that and the sweetness and the skill with which the old man plays the notes won the hearts of everyone who saw it.
