It's certainly not unheard of for soap stars to go onto big things after leaving the shows that made them famous. Now Oscar-nominated star of The Wolf Of Wall Street and Suicide Squad, Margot Robbie, started out on Aussie soap Neighbours and more recently EastEnders own Ben Hardy - aka the most recent incarnation of Peter Beale - landed a starring role in the X Men franchise.

But when he bowed out of his role as nerdy market inspector Tamwar Masood in 2016, few of us expected Himesh Patel to hit the big time quite so quickly. And yet that's exactly what he's done!

Himesh is starring in what could be one of this summer's biggest movies. Yesterday is directed by Danny Boyle and written by Richard Curtis - the man who brought us Love Actually and Four Weddings And A Funeral. In the film, Himesh plays Jack Malik, a struggling singer-songwriter who wakes up after an accident during a mysterious global power cut and discovers he's the only person left on earth who remembers the Beatles. The film also stars Lily James as Ellie, Jack's best friend and love interest, and Ed Sheeran and James Corden, as themselves.
