The two lovers met in 2001, at St Andrews university. After two years of friendship, they decided to start a relationship. But at the end of four years of love, they no longer saw the future in the same way: Kate Middleton appeared to want to get married, whereas Prince William wasn’t quite ready to commit.

Kate Middleton, who was scrutinised by the press, was nicknamed “Waity Katie” at the time by the tabloids; a waiting game which hurt the future Duchess of Cambridge a lot. Her step-father, Prince Charles, noticed the situation.

Kate’s well-being

Worried about seeing his son’s partner suffer so much, he’s said to have advised William to leave Kate Middleton, in order to save her from unnecessary pain, according to information revealed by Christopher Andersen.

“I’m 25, and that’s too young to get married. I don’t want to get engaged with anyone at the moment”, Prince William is rumoured to have explained to his dad. “You can’t keep it going when you’re in doubt, waiting to be ready. It’s not fair for her”, Prince Charles is said to have advised.

This is a view that the Duke of Cambridge evidently decided to follow, because the couple separated briefly in 2007, before getting back together and having three children. All’s well that ends well!
