The Queen: Here’s the reason why she hasn’t met her great-granddaughter and may not for a while

The Queen has a very large family, from four children to eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. One of the Queen’s latest addition to the family is Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s second child. Lilibet is almost nine months old and still hasn’t met her great-grandmother.

Security issues

Since moving to California in 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan haven’t travelled to the UK together with their two children, Archie and Lilibet. The main reason is that Prince Harry has not been allowed to fund his own police protection when visiting and cannot assure his family's safety.

The last time Prince Harry was in the UK it was to unveil the commemorative statue to honour his late mother, Princess Diana in July 2021. However, during that visit, he had a security breach. It is unclear how severe the security breach was, but it has made Prince Harry worried about his family’s safety if they were to return to the UK.

Prince Harry is currently taking the British Government to court so he can be allowed to fund his own police protection whilst visiting.

Family tensions

Another reason Prince Harry hasn’t returned to the UK with his family is because of tensions within the family.

Indeed after their split from the Royal Family, bonds were broken and tensions began to grow. Matters were made worse when the couple did their ‘tell all’ interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Furthermore, later this year Prince Harry has an autobiography coming out, and it will reveal the truth about his life as a royal. Prince Harry wrote the book ‘not as the Prince he was, but the man he became’. Depending on what the Duke of Sussex has written, more family bonds could break.

Hopefully, the Prince will be able to mend fences with his family so the monarch who is 95 years old, will be able to meet her great-granddaughter.

It is still unsure whether Prince Harry will return to the UK for Prince Philip’s memory service on March 29. However, if he didn’t attend the ceremony it would undoubtedly sever the thin ties he already has with his family.

There is hope that Prince Harry will be able to sort out his security problems so he and his family can come back to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June.
