Despite her royal status, the Queen has a rather small circle of friends. It is significantly harder for the Royals to trust outsiders, hence the Queen curated an intimate circle of trusted friends over the years. However, she received devastating news recently of the death of one of her closest childhood friends, Lady Myra Butter.

The Queen’s friend from childhood

The Queen and Lady Myra were thick as thieves back in the day. In fact, she and a couple of other girls were selected by Buckingham palace to keep then-Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret, company during several of her activities, according to People Magazine. Lady Myra is also one of Prince Philip’s cousins.

She is a direct descendant of Tsar Nicholas I of Russia, who is her great-great-grandfather, as per Daily Mail. Lady Myra had royal blood within herself despite not acquiring any royal position. She stated to The Telegram in an interview how she and the Queen took swimming lessons together. She said:

The Queen said it's a very long time ago… Well, it jolly well is, I think I was 12. I'm rather lucky in that department. My memory is good and so is hers.

Losing close friends

Sadly, Lady Myra Butter, 97, passed away ‘peacefully’ in London, on 29 July. She adds to the increasing number of friends that the Queen had lost in the last couple of years. After the death of Prince Philip, several of her close confidantes passed away.

However, she is not the only royal to mourn the loss of a close one. A few weeks ago Kate Middleton also said goodbye to one of her close confidantes. In addition, an acquaintance of Prince William was recently shot and killed right outside his home, to which the Prince expressed his deep condolences via his social media.
