Palace life isn’t always so simple and the protocol can often be tiring. One of the British Royal Family’s rules that can be particularly frustrating is that the children don’t have the right to participate in official meals until they have “learned the art of polite conversation.”

The children’s table
Princes George and Louis and their sister Charlotte are therefore not allowed to eat with their grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. Darren McGrady, former head chef for the Royal Family, told Harper’s Bazaar that this rule dating back to the Victorian times, even applies to Christmas dinner!
So the children have a place reserved for them in the nursery for official meals. “The Queen has never had to put a high chair at the table with a baby that cries and throws food,” says the former chef.
So it seems the Royal Family is willing to miss some of the best moments just for a good dining experience.
